Tahiti & French Polynesia

Beautiful Tahiti Beach Conjuring up images of beautiful palm tree-lined beaches, white sand, pristine waters, lush tree covered peaks and aqua colored lagoons; Tahiti is the ultimate definition of paradise on earth. Located in French Polynesia in the Southern Pacific Ocean, Tahiti belongs to the Society Islands Archipelago. The largest island of the 118 atolls and islands in French Polynesia and forming part of the Windward Islands group, this gorgeous destination is the perfect escape from the rest of the world.

Often called ‘the island of love’, Tahiti’s varied landscape covers just 402 sq. miles. From towering mountain peaks that stretch up to 7,300 feet into the clouds to its stunning beaches, green valleys and cascading waterfalls, this island is truly a magical destination for all. Home to the capital of French Polynesia, Papeete; Tahiti is the most visited island in the area. Currently housing 60% of French Polynesia’s population, this island is also the political, economical and cultural capital of the region. With much to do and plenty to see here, Tahiti’s main attractions are not just its beautiful beaches and its plethora of water sports. If you enjoy a little exploration, then visit the interior regions of this island to discover the rugged and magnificent landscape found here. Mysterious, wild and uninhabited, this part of the island with its hidden valleys and lush greenery has intrigued island visitors for centuries.

From championship golf courses in Papeete to horseback riding, tennis, a wealth of museums and galleries to discover, along with helicopter excursions, adventure tours and day trips to atolls, Tahiti offers much to keep one thoroughly entertained. However, if you are here for the amazing beaches, then head to the northeast coast to find some incredible black sand shores. To the south west you will find the most superb white sand beaches in the world. A majority of Tahiti’s hotel resorts are found on the western coast of the island.

Geographically divided into two circles, Tahiti Nui and Tahiti Iti, this island is a profusion of color and beauty. Tahiti Nui, which means ‘Big Tahiti’ sits in northwest of the island, while Tahiti Iti, which means ‘Little Tahiti’ sits to the southeast. Connected by a narrow isthmus, most of the people here live in Tahiti Nui.
