Bora Bora
With its picture postcard perfect beauty, the tiny island of Bora Bora is synonymous with sun, sand and gorgeous aqua lagoons. Known for being a playground to the rich and famous, this island is considered by many to be a kind of utopian paradise, where all the pleasures of life can be found. Home to stunningly beautiful beaches, soaring volcanic peaks, lush greenery and an endless plethora of activities to enjoy, it is no wonder then that Bora Bora is the ultimate vacation destination.

Known as Vavau in ancient times, Bora Bora means first born. According to legend, this island is said to be the place Prince Ohatatama ruled. Ohatatama was the son of Hiro, the first king of Raiatea. A tiny island that stretches just 9 km from north to south and around 4 km wide as its broadest point, Bora Bora has plenty to do and much to see. First discovered by Captain James Cook in 1769, this paradise has a rich and interesting past. Also used as a US supply base during World War II, in the 1940's this island had over 6,000 US troops stationed here.
Volcanically formed around 4 million years ago, if you visit Bora Bora today, you can still see the rim of the underwater volcano that has been eroded by the sea to form Povai Bay. With a navigable lagoon surrounding the island, there is much to see of Bora Bora on land, as there is underwater. With a 32 km long coastal road that runs along the island, this is one of the best ways to see the incredible wealth of natural beauty Bora Bora has on display. And add to that the dazzling and luxurious array of hotels and resorts on the island, and you have an ideal haven to rest and relax in.
Take a lagoon tour or go for a dive in the marine rich waters off the coast to see some truly superb sights. Snorkeling here is fantastic, as is going for a hike up Mount Pahia, which offers some breathtaking views of the surrounding region and the incredible blue sea. If you have the cash take a 15-minute helicopter tour of the island to catch some unbelievable views. Absolutely epitomizing paradise, Bora Bora is a wonderful escape in French Polynesia. An amazingly magnificent island, come here for the vacation of a lifetime like no other.
