Getting Around in Moorea

Driving Dirt Bikes on Moorea Lying just 20 km from Tahiti, Moorea is a beautiful island that can easily be reached in less than 10 minutes by a plane, and is just a half an hour speedboat trip away from Papeete. An idyllic and laidback paradise, this island seduces its visitors not only with its more authentic and traditional lifestyle, but also with its quaint charm and lack of tourists. The perfect getaway for those who want to enjoy a quiet vacation away from the crowds, Moorea has many hidden pleasures that you can enjoy.

Once here getting around is rather easy with a 60 km long ring road encircling the island. Rent a car, scooter or bicycle to take in the beauty of Moorea at your own time and pace. While there is no public transport on the island, car rentals are pretty cheap here and can cost even less if you rent a vehicle for two to three days at a stretch. From the airport to the quay at Vaiare, you can find a shuttle bus that will take you to and from the hotels at Cook's Bay and Hauru Point. Taxis are expensive here and should be avoided unless it is an emergency.
A great way to see the island is by organized tour. However, if you are more risqué, traveling by yourself will let you see a more authentic Moorea. There are a number of reliable vehicle rental agencies on the island including Europcar, which lets you rent out scooters as well as little 'fun cars' on a full day or half-day basis. Rando Cycles rents out bicycles as well as mountain bikes and even organizes guided rides for you. If you wish to explore the lagoon or the small motu nearby, there is a local boat rental company on the island that rents out boats on an hourly basis with fuel.
