Getting to Huahine

Beach at Huahine A beautiful island, Huahine is often nicknamed the ‘garden island’ for its rich wealth of verdant foliage and thick rainforests. An interesting and intriguing place to explore as there is much to see here, this island still remains under-visited. However, don’t let this deter you as it is one of the hidden treasures of the region. Lush and gorgeous, a visit to Huahine is a must especially if you want to escape the crowds and have a more secluded vacation.

Getting to Huahine is quite straightforward. You can either get here by boat or by air. If you have the traveling budget, then a plane ride is the quickest way to get here. Air Tahiti has flights from Papeete to Huahine three to five times a day. It is a 35 minute short flight. Huahine’s airport sits just outside of Fare, the administrative capital, some 2.5 km away. The Air Tahiti office in Huahine is located in Fare opposite the quay.
If your travel budget is limited or if you just want to laze your vacation out, you can get to Huahine by boat too. The Aremiti 3 sails from Papeete to Huahine and on to Raiatea on Mondays and Wednesdays, twice a week. A roughly 4 hour journey, if you boat leaves Papeete at 7 in the morning, you are likely to reach Huahine by 11 am. If you wish to travel by boat to and from Huahine, it is advisable to get in touch with the Aremiti 3 office to see if there are no changes to the boat’s schedule.

Some inter-island cargo ships such as the Vaeanu, Taporo III and Hawaiki Niu also come to Huahine from Papeete. However, they are a less reliable option to travel buy.

If you like, you can also sail here on your own. You can rent a boat and crew from Papeete to get to Huahine.
